The river beneath the surface
Imagine standing at the edge of a vast, mighty river. On the surface you see eddies, foam, bobbing branches and winds whipping up waves. This surface chaos is our daily life: the thoughts, the stress, the conflicts, the news feeds. But beneath the surface flows a massive, silent, unbroken current moving relentlessly in a single direction. It carries everything with it, entirely without effort. This is the Dao.
The Dao is the organic process through which the whole universe unfolds. It is the intelligence that makes the seasons turn and an acorn grow into an oak – without anyone standing there pulling on the branches.
The human problem is that we constantly try to swim against this current. We want to force results, we want summer in the middle of winter, and we fight against what is already a fact. To live in line with the Dao is to stop fighting reality and let nature's own power carry you forward.
